The Best Affordable Wellness Retreats & Impactful Travel
Christmas has always been a difficult holiday for me. When I was a kid, it meant presents, snow, and too much time staying a house with the sometimes scary and unpredictable people that were my parents. As soon as I was able to, I left. Setting myself free from the toxicity of my family has been a gift, and most of the time I am grateful to be liberated and independent. And then comes Christmas. And everyone else goes off with their families. And I feel alone.
Over the years I have been invited to many different Christmas celebrations. It has been beautiful to experience other homes, family and cultural traditions, and of course, their food! A couple of years ago, I found myself in the early days of December with no plan and no invitations. Deciding to be completely selfish with this holiday and give myself an experience as a gift. I decided to go to a 8 day yoga and meditation retreat in southern Spain. Healthy vegan food, meaningful connections and nature was my gift to myself. The following year I decided to take the Christmas holiday to spend time completely alone. It was empowering, I enjoyed a good 3 days cozy in my pajamas at home. It was nice and peaceful.
This year, I have decided to join a 12 day yoga adventure journey for women in Cambodia. Spending this holiday with a group of women doing awesome things like visiting one of the wonders of the world, walking with a herd of elephants, chasing waterfalls and lying on the most pristine sandy beaches and swimming in clear blue water, and doing daily yoga and meditation to explore more of my inner world was exactly the kind of Christmas experience that I wanted, and needed. It is also so amazing that for two days we get to visit a small village school and give something back to the children there.
